Book Cover Samples

The right cover can make your book stand out from the crowd. I have so much fun finding the perfect images to create the right feel for a story (or creating those images by blending multiple pictures together, as with the mermaid cover below--click the cover to see the collection of images I started with!). But it's more than just finding the right image. Color choice, font, and placement of elements all play a part in the overall feel of the final cover design.

sample bookcover with slightly-bored mermaid leaning on rocks, swishing her tail in the water
sample bookcover with 4 teens playing in the snow
sample bookcover with a library that fades into a forest, with an open book and a modern girl shooting an old-fashioned bow and arrow
sample bookcover with moonlit crypt and a ghostly shadow of a girl running across

Tone is just as important as the imagery in book covers.

When designing your cover, I will ask for a lot of details about your book. You may wonder why I'm asking certain questions, but as you can see in the following examples, differences in color, composition, and even font choice can give a book a completely different feel, even when the title and blurb are the same. Click on each cover for a closer look.
sample bookcover with a boy and a girl walking down a tree-lined street with a bike - girl is looking over her shoulder and holding a bouquet of flowers - a heart made of barbed wire frames them - everything is black-and-white, except for the flowers and the heart
sample bookcover with a boy and a girl walking down a tree-lined street with a bike - girl is looking over her shoulder and holding a bouquet of flowers - tree leaves are orange and gold, and everything has a slight sepia tone to it
